“What holds my interest is the fact that the landscape never stays still. Stones gathered in a cleft of rock, seaweed tangled and tossed up on the shore, the wonderful colours of the moors as the season changes, these are the bones beneath my paintings. It is the artist’s job to manipulate the visual world around us and produce something more than just a record of what was there.”
JOHN WORKS FROM HIS STUDIO AT ROSKILL, JUST SOUTH OF DUNVEGAN ON THE ISLE OF SKYE. HE LOOKS OUT ON LOCH BRACADALE WITH VIEWS TO THE SOUTH OF THE ISLANDS OF RUM AND CANNA AND THE THREE MAIDENS, MOTHER STACK AND 2 DAUGHTER STACKS OF IDRIGALL POINT. AND TO THE WEST THE CURIOUS FLAT TOPPED MACLEODS TABLES, HEALABHAL BEAG AND MHOR. THIS IS AN AREA OF FASCINATING LANDFORMS AND SHAPES.
